Our Heartfelt Gratitude to the Children for their Artistic Expressions
A short paragraph would not do justice to my qigong journey. Instead I would like to use 5 words that could perhaps provide at least a glimpse. Health. Mindfulness. Friendships. Self-betterment. Love
While each of these represents a separate journey of learning, they are all inextricably linked. Learning to practice qi gong and mindfulness with this community under Master Joanne’s guidance is very special. Master Joanne works tirelessly to guide us, teach us and look out for us. There is a lot of love, support and understanding among our Qigong pals to help each other learn. I feel very grateful to be on this journeyI have been practising Qigong since 2017 with Master Joanne and I was a skeptical newbie! But after 5 years, Qigong has improved my life and relationships as it helps build mental focus and increases awareness of environment and self.
Through unique teaching during the pandemic, I learned how to understand our body as a system and how to improve our 5 organs.
Many of us learn Meditation alongside our Qigong, the two go hand in hand as our body is a physical vessel and the mind makes decisions. Qigong is also a discipline, the more you practise, the better you get at it.
Joanna Tan (Singaporean)
My Qigong journey has been transformative. Learning to listen, observe and really trying to know and understand myself.
It has been about learning to let go, learning to accept, peeling away the layers and getting to the core.
Becca Lam (Malaysian)
Qigong helps me to recharge my energy. I am more confident and cheerful.
Mr Kuik (Singaporean)
I have a better posture and stronger muscle. My body is well recharged throughout the day.
Since early 30s, my sleep had been lesser and lesser. No matter how much effort I spent at the gym, pilates or yoga classes, my mind was always active at night. I love to sleep and I need 7-8 hours of sleep. But I realise my sleep has become lesser and lesser. I would survive with 4 hours of sleep a day, with my tea or latte.
Fenny Maynard (Singaporean)
I started to search for devices to help me sleep. After a while the device didn’t work anymore. Then I moved on to ‘sleep clinic’, after a month it didn’t work anymore. Then I moved on to taking magnesium to calm my nerves. I PAID JUST TO SLEEP.
The sleeping issue disrupted my mind and emotions, I was easily irritated and angry and I started to ‘drill’ my body even more with the hope of having a good sleep later. The culmination of the issues picked up when I hit my 40s. At the end of 2020, I couldn’t sleep and I couldn’t breathe. I had to force myself to just breathe. I had to sleep sitting up because if I laid down horizontally, I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t tell anyone of these issues. My menses had become just 2 days. Walking ten steps is hard work as I would be breathless. Some nights when I sat down wide awake trying to breathe and sleep, the thought of death hovered around me. I asked myself ‘what has gone wrong? Is this how my life going to end?’ I didn’t have the energy even to get up and have a meal. Each simple activity was a chore. I was a wreck emotionally that I felt angry with each sentence that I spoke because it took so much effort.
During the lock down, a friend told me that she started to do qigong. I was desperately asking her to bring me for qigong. I had my first qigong class on Saturday right after CNY 2021. We were told do breathing sitting down. I felt nauseous but I persevered, after what seemed like forever, Master Joanne said ‘you can stop now’. It was a relief. I asked why I felt nauseous just by doing a simple activity. She said ‘your nervous system was having a detox’.
Each session gave me a new revelation of my body awareness. Imagine my body had given so many signals for years and I ignored those signals. So it’s like my body had lots of ‘wounds and plasters’ and during qigong, those plasters were opened up and each wound got the care it needed, slowly but surely.
I started to be able to sleep 5-6 hours and now I sleep 7-8 hours a day. My menses has gone to 5 days. My eating habit has become balanced (I was a clean eating freak). Most importantly, my thoughts and emotions have become very stable and I don’t easily get triggered anymore. Ten years ago, an intern called me ‘the jaguar of the company’ (roarr ). Less than 2 years after qigong, a colleague told me ‘you are very zen’. This overall change has not only made my life better and smoother, but also my family and my office relationships to be more harmonious.
I am doing qigong for 3.5 years now. Some friends who didn’t see me for a while would tell me ‘you gain some weight but you look much better that few years ago’. They feel I am more secure as a person and at ease to be with. I am now not in a hurry to finish my sentences and I can listen deeply to them.
I am thankful for Master Joanne’s wisdom and teaching. I am grateful for the Qi Element team and friends who give me huge support during my healing journey and even now. I am grateful to be given this opportunity to learn and change.
I am not exaggerating if I say ‘Qigong saves lives. Start today’.
My Qigong journey is a new chapter in my life trying to find peace, contentment and balance in my life and for my family. I still have a long way to go, but I know I’m learning from a great Master. It truly is a humbling and fascinating journey to explore and a lifelong pursuit and study for me.
And not to forget, practicing with a wonderful group of Qigong pals makes every session so much more inspiring and filled with so much love and care for one and another. Truly amazing!

Master Joanne always reminds us to take it “slowly, slowly, slowly” and to think, act and speak with kindness, be loving and at peace. Her students are her family and their children are her joy!
Lily Low (Singaporean)
My qigong journey has been ” To learn how to love myself and to take things slowly! 师父领进门,修行在个人 “
I have walked with Master Joanne for over 15 years and am grateful to her for not just teaching me Qi gong, but also helping me develop as a person – physically, mentally and spiritually. Her teachings have allowed me to improve my Qi, vitality and health which in turn has had a positive effect on my family, my career and life in general.
Philip Lee (Australian)
I have known Master Joanne for 15 years, she has a heart of gold and an impressive wealth of knowledge on Qi and health. Her innate calling to help improve people’s health through Qigong and holistic healing has unknowingly bring together a community that is supportive and loving. Her advice are always personal and powerful if one is ready to follow them. I have benefited so much and I’m so grateful to have her in my life.
Joyce Sng (Singaporean)
I joined Qi Gong in year end 2017. Under an amazing sifu Joanne’s teaching, her love and care has helped me to improve my health tremendously. As an asthma patient since young, I have not had any attack for the past 2 years. I have learned not only Qi Gong (energy exercise), I learned about life cultivation, diet cultivation, detoxification, deep breathing, etc. With the combination, I became a better person. A calm, a wise and a healthier person. We also learned what is big love, how to become a good mother/good wife.
Elaine Teh (Malaysian)
My qi gong journey has made me a more balanced person, I have learned to love myself every day more and more, I value and appreciate myself now and it makes me feel happier deep inside, this is all thanks to Master Joanne’s teaching 🙏 I am deeply grateful that my life journey has given me the opportunity to cross paths, experience and learn from her! She is a blessing ❤
Kristel Alver (Estonian)
I can’t believe it has been almost 3 years but I still feel like a newbie, the learning never stops and it’s a God send blessing for me to meet Master and my Qigong mates on this continuous journey of self-improvement, love and blessings.

Our journey with Master Joanne began over 15 years ago, and it has been a truly transformative experience for my husband and I.
Christine Lee (Malaysian)
We have attended almost every qigong, detox, cultivation, meditation, and breathing program or workshop offered, and each one has left a lasting impact on our health and wellbeing.
Master Joanne’s deep knowledge, compassionate guidance, and commitment to our personal growth have been invaluable. We have learned to cultivate inner balance, manage stress more effectively, and connect with the natural rhythms of our body and mind. By emphasizing the importance of mindfulness, breath work, and the body-mind connection, we have been empowered to take charge of our well-being, rather than simply relying on external solutions.
We continue to be inspired by Master Joanne’s commitment to helping others achieve a more balanced, centered, and fulfilling existence. We would wholeheartedly recommend Qi Element’s qigong lessons and all the other programs to anyone seeking to cultivate greater health and mindfulness.
Qigong has made a huge difference in strengthening my physical and emotional health, as well as my general state of being. The practice (the journey) has led me in a very natural and positive personal development which would have been a struggle and slow process on my own.
People like to say ‘life is like a box of chocolates’ which means that life is unpredictable and that it is full of surprises; you never know what will happen next. But with Master Joanne’s continuous guidance, support and encouragement coupled with regular qigong practice, I know it can only be better for me from here onwards…. TO A BETTER AND HEALTHIERME.
Am eternally grateful to Master Joanne. May she be showered with great blessings.
Wai Ping (Malaysian)
My QG journey has been filled with surprises to be honest. It has been a journey of education, discipline and of self realization. Few QG practices approach it as Master does. Apart from learning the movements of QG, what is equally important in our practice and community is the cultivation of what she calls Big Love and Self Love through meditation, diet, education and understanding of ourselves and the Universe.
Mei Jean (Malaysian)
My Qiqong journey with Master Joanne started with walks and simple practices at the Botanic Gardens three years ago. It is a good way to upkeep my health and understand how my actions and ethics are also part of that cultivation to be my better self. More importantly, she has built a community that is supportive and encouraging for all to walk this journey with her.
Jacks Yeo (Singaporean)
When I went to our qi qong workshop in Jan 2018, Master Joanne told me “You wanted to have children. Now you have children. If you don’t look after yourself, who is going to look after your children?”. As we sat down and meditated during the workshop, it became clear to me I had to change and look after my health. From that day on, I stopped doing my work in the night after putting my children to bed. Two weeks later, I found out that I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I had to stop practising qi gong during my pregnancy.
I was only able to start doing qi gong again on 1 Jan 2020. It has been an enlightening and humbling journey. Other than our qi gong classes, we also have meditation classes. Day by day, practice by practice, breath by breath, I’ve learnt to improve my own health, listen to my body and become more aware of my own thoughts, words and actions and their impact.
Some of my old chronic health issues are gone. When I was little, we lived in a very damp house and I had arthritis when I was 7 years old. Since then my knees would hurt whenever the weather changed from hot to rainy. I have not felt that kind of pain for a year now.
As I am more healthy and more aware, I am a better Mum, daughter and wife. I learn to have compassion for myself and for others. Our family have been able to overcome some challenges coming our way, from learning to co-exist with all of us working and studying at home to figuring out how to parent three young children.
Learning to practise qi gong and mindfulness with this community under Master Joanne’s guidance is very special. Master Joanne works tirelessly to guide us, teach us and look out for us. There is a lot of love, support and understanding among our qi gong pals to help each other learn. I feel very grateful to be on this journey
Ngoc Duong (Vietnamese)
I was first introduced to qigong in late 2008 when Master Joanne was helping me with my 2nd pregnancy. Qigong is more than just an exercise for good health. It is a way of living the best life!
With daily qigong practice and a healthy diet, one is blessed with amazing vitality & health. I feel strong and stable having acquired a sense of quiet awareness.
Thank you Master Joanne for the invaluable teachings that has helped my family, friends and I very much in more ways than one – in health, wealth, happiness, relationships & family.

I started in October 2017. This wholistic journey has greatly transformed me to a better version of me not just in physical health but in emotional and mental health etc. All the detox, cultivation and workshops have helped me a lot. My health is better, don’t recall having any fever or flu since I started. Vast improvement in my degenerating back. Was not able to sit on floor to meditate but now I can. Could do all the bending down movements effortlessly recently. I am a lot more calmer and can handle my role as wife, mother and daughter in law better. Loving myself more, learning to let go, reducing emotional baggage, live in the present, empty my cup, decluttering etc. Through the various detox, cultivation workshops, I am also now better equipped with a set of “tools” to use for various situations. I am learning everyday still and need to work harder. 😀
Karen Kwee (Singaporean)
My Qigong/Meditation journey has been an awe inspiring and positive journey of learning, transformation, enlightenment and letting go, made extra special not only by Master but also by my amazing Qigong friends. Their open, honest and deep sharing has moved me, inspired me, encouraged me and motivated me. I feel privileged to belong to this big-hearted group and learn not only from awesome friends but also from a grand Master. Her sessions/workshops are based on sound psychological principles. They are very addictive, making you crave for more.
My learning and growth is only possible because of Master Joanne.
I hope more people will join her and her wonderful Qigong community to feel the benefits for themselves. She is an awesome Master. I’ll always be eternally grateful to her. I thank her from the bottom of my heart.
Wendy Smith Yau (British)
I started qi gong and meditation lessons seriously during the covid pandemic. As someone who lives in Australia, I’m thankful to have had access to Master Joanne’s zoom lessons. Qigong helped to balance me mentally during the lockdown and keep my lungs healthy with the breathing exercises. Very grateful to Master Joanne.
Carole Lee (Malaysian)
My qi gong journey is a beautiful experience connecting breath with body, body with soul and soul with Universe.
Kim Liew (Malaysian)
She is someone who can teach you to fengshui yourself even though she is not a fengshui practitioner. Her knowledge and skills are slowly unfolding as we go on our all encompassing wholistic learning journeys which keeps us in awe always. To put it simply, is to follow her instructions, practice and be astounded, have faith and belief, and receive the love and blessings with gratitude.
Benjamin Tan (Singaporean)
My good friend Valerie Cheah brings me to Master Joanne. I lost someone previous and was facing grief and negativity, fear in me. My hands will shake voluntarily when the fear attack comes. Somehow, Master Joanne knows what I am going through, and was blessed to received an invitation five years ago with Valerie Cheah (VC), Kim Liew (KL) and Pearl Kuok (PK) for a foot’s soaking session thus began my healing and qigong journey. I was opened to Master Joanne’s teaching, slowly i regain my confidence and healing take place the teaching, guiding and practice of qigong and meditation
Josie Toh (Singaporean)
Our qigong journey has been short but meaningful. Exercise has helped us improve our bodies, teaching has helped improve our minds. The overall journey has been very positive to many aspects of our lives.
Amanda Pang (Malaysian)
I was curious about qigong and had been reading up on it for a while. It was a private inquiry and not something I brought up in conversations. Unsuspectingly, my friend Ngoc the angel drags me to a qigong class run by Master Joanne, one early morning. So the saying goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
My qigong journey thus far has been a journey unto myself, with moments of inner-struggle, matched by moments of revelation and transformation. I was alone, now no longer.
Jinn (Singaporean)
I first met Master Joanne in Oct 2017 but only started joining Qi Gong regularly from June 2020. Master Joanne’s Qi Gong is not just a learning on the exercise component but also teaches us about life philosophies on universal, holistic and peaceful principles such as living in harmony. Master Joanne is a guardian Angel for my big family and me. We are incredibly blessed and exceptionally fortunate to have her in our lives, always being there watching, teaching, supporting, encouraging and guiding us tirelessly with her profound big LOVE.
Jenny Poh (Malaysian)
My qigong journey has brought me and my family miracles, helped me with self cultivation, taught me what Big Love is and most important of all, gifted me with a Family of Qigong Brothers and Sisters.
Josephine Tan (Singaporean)
After joining this qigong group for the past 2-3 years, learning and practising qigong with Master, my life changed. I can now manage my life in a very cool and calm manner. In fact, I am meeting lots of good people at the right time. Qigong really did something and all I did was believe and trust that “Qi” is real, practise it and eventually benefit from it.
Dr Seet (Malaysian)
My Qi Gong journey has been a holistic healing journey … to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually… I am more connected to my own physical body, the environment and my true spiritual being.
Poli (Malaysian)
We are very happy be part of the big qigong family where everyone brings their positive energy and supports one another.
Chu Cheng (Singaporean)
My qigong journey has really change my life from a stressful and anxiety workaholic person to a calming and positive thinker. Also Mindfulness over my Qi to flow optimally throughout my organs. Felt so much healthier.
Gary Hong (Singaporean)
A journey to the greater discovery of the energies that drive my body and my living 🙂
Jack Lau (Malaysian)
As we face the daily challenges of life, family and work.. Master Joanne has been the fountain of wisdom that continues to nourish me. With this nourishment of wisdom from Master and love through our Qigong group, I feel that I have become more self aware and hopefully be my better self to the people around me and the people I care.
